While continuing my duties as Director of the Architecture Library (see below), I also:

  • Planned, budgeted, and implemented all library technology.
  • Supervised the Systems Librarian.
  • Developed and motivated library staff in the creation and use of shared information on the library's LAN.
  • Shared overall NJIT library management responsibilities with the other members of the Management Team (University Librarian, Assistant University Librarian, and Director of Projects and Grants).

Director of the Architecture Library, July 1996 to February 2001
Architecture Library, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ

  • Responsible for the day-to-day running of the Architecture Library, a branch of the main university library. Reported to the University Librarian.
  • Provided architecture reference service, educate library users, and develop services and resources for the Architecture Library.
  • Maintained an active liaison program with School of Architecture faculty, researchers, and staff.
  • Developed the Architecture Library collections—books, journals, maps, indexes and abstracts, and remote and local electronic resources.
  • Managed the Architecture Library Coordinator.
  • Assisted in planning and designing new Architecture Library (1996-1997), and coordinated successful move into same (January 1998).
  • Led Architecture Library through the successful accreditation of the School of Architecture by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (February 1997).
  • Created a web-based slide image database and display tool in MS Access, ColdFusion, and JavaScript. Migrated architecture faculty from analog 35 mm slides to digital image presentations.
  • Performed as Acting Architecture Librarian for twelve months (July 1996 to June 1997) before appointment was made permanent and position upgraded.

  • Provided comprehensive library service to students, faculty, researchers, and staff in civil engineering, engineering technology, materials science, physics, and transportation.
  • Maintained active liaison program with university faculty, researchers, and staff in those five areas.
  • Developed print, non-print, and electronic collections in those five areas.
  • Performed general reference services in all subject areas.
  • Established customized UnCover service—library provides access to the UnCover database and unmediated, fully-subsidized, direct-to-customer ordering of its faxed articles to NJIT students, faculty, and staff. Maintained, monitored, and evaluated our customers’ use behavior of that service.
  • Served as one of two library staff on university-wide committee to select the NJIT library director (spring 1995).
  • Chaired library committee to fill newly created Systems Librarian position (winter/spring 1996).
  • Designed and managed the library's web pages.
  • Led journal reclassification project (summer 1993). Developed an original algorithm to calculate the physical rearrangement of journals into the new classification scheme. Directed library staff through rearrangement process.
