How to Run Matlab on AFS/PC

Once you have downloaded the three m-files in one of your directories on an AFS/PC computer, cd to that directory, and start matlab. Here is an example of how to run DFIELD5:

You will see a new window popping-up on your screen, and it will look like this:

Place the mouse in the field you wish to change and click once; the cursor appears where you clicked. NOTE: if you press the delete key then it is the character immediatelly after the cursor that gets erased. Above I have entered the info required to reproduce Figure 1.4.1 in the textbook. Once I did that I clicked the Proceed button and this is what opened on the screen:

Clicking with the mouse at some points in the direction field produces the solution curve y(x) passing through the point I clicked and then I get something like this:

Happy Trails ! Make sure you explore all the menu entries in the DFIELD5 Display; some of these entries allow you to save the graphs in a file, print them, etc., and you can annotate the graph with text/labels. Once you have finished, go to the window where you started dfield5 and type quit to exit MATLAB.
