This issue began Halloween night 1999 conversing with
Juba at Kimako's Blues People.  I'd been to some Verse 4 Verse
gatherings, which were unquestionably energizing, exciting,
and life-returning public poetry events.  Naturally, I asked
Juba if he and cohorts would be willing to contribute work
for an issue.  He offered to gather up a selection.
After a couple of meetings and a few dozen e-mail
exchanges the present materials congealed.
I'd like to thank all of the artists whose work appears,
and Juba for the leg-work in uniting them together.

Be sure to stay on the lookout for the forthcoming
Verse 4 Verse anthology, edited by Ras Baraka and Juba,
and for the return of Verse 4 Verse in February 2000.

In January 2000, Verse 4 Verse put on a show at Kimako's Blues People,
pictures from that event (taken by Ben Polsky) can be seen here.
