RED OAK TREES

I DON'T WEAR BLACK

RED OAK TREES

Why are all the trees
falling down in my backyard?

Is it the Wind or
is it from last year's nor'easter?

Another storm from
the Atlantic Ocean

here in Manasquan
here I live.

Can those trees be
reborn, probably not.

New acorns do come up
out of the ground and

Nature nurtures a new red oak
tall like my friend

the red oak growing in
my backyard.

I DON'T WEAR BLACK

In Hollywood black tie and dress black
those Academy Award show soundtracks

playing all types of music back to back.
With Johnny Cash singing only in Nashville black.

Even some poets I know dress in black.
I don't wear black, I don't like black,

I want to wear the green, blue or red alas alack
I don't want to wear black.
