Shabnam Darjani is currently a PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of NJIT. She has done her BS in Iran and because of her strong academic background she was approved for BS-PhD program directly. She has been an active member during her bachelor’s for managing several contests like Spaghetti Bridge contest and Concrete contest. She was also one of the manager’s team in a Civil Engineering Bulletin in her country. She decided to run for CEE representative position because she feels a connection towards fellow students in the department. She thinks she can help them to solve the problems they have in NJIT.
These are some of the things Shabnam plans to bring to effect, if she is elected as CEE rep to GSA.
· A suggestions/complain box in the department building so that all graduate students can convey their suggestions and their problems. This might work better for some students rather than waiting for feedback sessions and will maintain anonymity.
· Shabanam plans to arrange site visits to under-construction sites of buildings, bridges, and dams, etc. As we are all graduate students and many of us are going to get academic job after graduation, we never have chance to be in construction part and see what are the problems in site and how a building be constructed in real life. We have just learned how to design, but about real life construction - we don’t know much.
