The number of tickets sold will go up some weeks and down other depending on the weather and other factors. The residual, the y distance between the best straight line and the actual number of tickets sold ( y value) can be used to determine the quality of the fit. The residual is defined as the distance between the value given by the equation y = ax + b (y = 500,000x + 0 )and the actual number of tickets sold.
