Since at the time the movie was released essentially nobody had seen the movie the graph starts at with a y of 0 at time 0. The y intercept is the value of the response variable (y) when the explanatory variable (x) is zero. If the slope is labeled with b and the intercept with a, then the equation y = ax + b defines all straight lines. In this case the y intercept is zero.
