Notes:
On the y axis, the height of a sample population of young ladies is given in centimeters; and on the x axis the age of that population is recorded. The height of 90% of the young ladies under the age of 18 is given by the area colored yellow.
The choice of presenting 5 percentile and 95 percentile mark is somewhat arbitrary, but the choice will become more obvious later in the course. The decision that a person is outside normal ranges must, by its very nature, define what is normal and what is not.
For now this graph will be used as an example of the display of information in a graphical format. The detail analysis for all the data in the graph can be discussed later.
