First, the height of a particular young lady named Sara will be investigated. It was observed by her parents that she was small when compared to her younger sister and classmates. But there is a natural variation in height for all children. Was her small size the results of natural forces or was there a problem? Statistics can be used to answer the question.
However, it is necessary to know the degree that the height of young ladies varies. In the graph above, a large amount of data is presented. The average height in centimeters, the 5 percentile mark, and 95 percentile mark for the height of young ladies between the age of 2 and 18 years of age is given in graphical form..
The blue line indicates their mean height. On the average, 1/2 the girls will have a height less that that line and 1/2 will have a height greater that that line.
