Constitution

Preamble
NJIT Anime shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the Senate and New Jersey Institute of Technology and its delegates. NJIT Anime is a member of the Atlantic Anime Alliance, and is subject to all of its regulations and bylaws.
Article 1: About Anime
Anime is simply Japanese Animation. It has less similarities to American ‘cartoons’ than it does to the US TV and movie industry. In Japan, they do not have a large resource pool like Hollywood does, and have very few talented actors. Also, particularly in the Science Fiction/Fantasy genre, acceptable special effects are too expensive. Anime, on the other hand, is relatively inexpensive to create. Anime, because it is viewed by adults as well as children, is taken more seriously and often contains mature content, and superior art to American animation.
Article 2: Purpose
NJIT Anime is in existence for three primary reasons:
  • To spread knowledge of Anime and related issues.
  • To fight the mass distribution of bootlegs and fansubs.
  • To give students a place to relax every Wednesday.
Article 3: Qualification for Membership
  • A student who shows up to one of our meetings is considered a member for that academic year.
  • A student who shows up to at least three meetings in a row, and does not miss more than one meeting consecutively thereafter, is considered an active member.
  • Membership in NJIT Anime may not be denied because of race, color, age, sex, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, disabled veteran or veteran of the Vietnam Era, national origin or religion.
Article 4: Video Rentals
  • In order to rent at NJIT Anime, a member must deposit at least one of the following:
    • A legal copy of an Anime VHS tape either English subtitled or English dubbed that is not currently in our library.
    • Twenty dollars ($20) in cash
  • This deposit is for security purposes and is forfeit if a rented tape is not returned, or returned damaged. Each deposit entitles the member to member to rent one tape at a time. For each successive deposit, the member may rent additional tapes.
  • If tape(s) rented are not returned, or returned damaged, NJIT Anime reserves the right to withhold all deposits up to and including the value of the tape(s) damaged.
  • Rentals are top be made immediately following Wednesday Meetings. Tapes rented are to be returned on the following Wednesday after the meeting. If tapes are not returned on time, the member may not rent additional tapes, nor may the member request deposit(s) back, until tapes are returned and a two dollar ($2) late fee is paid.
  • Pricing for rentals goes as follows
    • Officers: no charge
    • Standard Member: $2.00 per week
    • Active Member: $1.00 per week

Article 9: Material to be Viewed
As mentioned in Article II, Anime contains mature content. NJIT Anime will not show the equivalent of X-rated material (containing graphic sexual acts). All Anime being shown at meetings or events must be viewed privately by the president or vice president to be certain it does not contain such material. If the equivalent of R-rated material (Graphic violence, nudity, and strong language) will be shown at the meeting, all members must be given warning before it is played. As an NJIT student organization, we believe it is our responsibility to keep viewings tasteful.
