Isn't Anime just cartoons with lots of tasteless sex and violence? Are Japanese children bloodthirsty perverts or something? |
![]() |
You couldn't be farther from the truth. It is true that some Anime has gratuitous sex and/or violence, some of which having little or no plot, but this is not true for most Anime. Anime is simply Japanese animation. A good portion of Anime has some graphic violence and sparse partial nudity, that is not the main focus of Anime. |

Why do some Anime have sex and violence? Are Japanese children bloodthirsty perverts or something? |

Anime, unlike American cartoons, is not all aimed towards children. Japan doesn't have the vast resources that Hollywood has, so most of their movies and a good portion of their TV shows are Anime. This is especially true of the science fiction and fantasy genre, which would both cost a fortune in special effects. In Anime, however, it doesn't cost much more if space crafts are exploding or two characters are talking. Some Anime is aimed towards children. Series like Nurse Angel Ririka and Magic Knights RayEarth have no almost graphic violence, and no sex. RayEarth, however, does have partial nudity during the main characters transformation sequence. In Japan, nudity is not thought of the same way it is In the US. Public bath-houses are popular, and families normally bathe together. |
