A center ring (B), consisting of six 2 5/8" cables, was hydraulically jacked into position 140 ft. above the playing field (C). Here is a close up color photo of detail (C). Cables framing the inner fabric panels (D) were run up a tramway system and winched into place (E). The outer panels were hoisted up to their positions using a steel spreader beam and a 300-ton crane (F).
Adjacent panel edges were then mechanically clamped to the cables (G) to form the final enclosure (H). An increase in mast top elevation temsioned the panels into their design geometry (I). Fabric overlays covered the seams and decorative pinnacles were added to the masts (J).
In its final form, the King Fhad International Stadium serves as a source of pride and makes a grand statement in support of the spirit of athletic competition (K&L).
